Start from your real cost per vial
Your cost per vial is more than the supplier price. Add your share of lab testing for the batch, packaging, labels, card or transfer fees and shipping. The free cost per milligram calculator does the per-unit math.
| Item | Example per vial |
|---|---|
| Supplier price | $14.00 |
| Share of batch testing ($400 over 100 vials) | $4.00 |
| Packaging and label | $1.20 |
| Payment fees at 5% | $2.25 on a $45 sale |
| Real cost | $21.45 |
Set breaks from margin, not from habit
Decide the lowest margin you will accept, then work backwards. With a $45 list price and a $21.45 real cost, the margin is about 52 percent. A 10 percent discount leaves about 47 percent; a 25 percent discount leaves about 36 percent.
| Quantity | Discount | Price per vial | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 to 2 | None | $45.00 | 52% |
| 3 to 5 | 10% | $40.50 | 47% |
| 6 to 9 | 15% | $38.25 | 44% |
| 10 or more | Ask for wholesale | Quoted | Quoted |
Remember that some costs fall per order rather than per vial, like shipping and packaging. Larger orders spread those costs, which is part of what pays for the discount.
Bulk retail versus wholesale
A buyer taking ten vials for their own lab is a bulk retail customer. A seller or distributor buying to resell is a wholesale customer, with approval, quotes and different terms. Keep the two separate: retail breaks on the store, wholesale through an application and quote.
How Purity handles it
Purity runs retail prices on your store and a separate wholesale portal for approved buyers, with their own pricing and quotes. Because every vial belongs to a batch with a recorded cost, you can see margin by product and by batch rather than guessing.
Common questions
- What discount should I offer for bulk peptides?
- Set it from your real cost per vial and the lowest margin you will accept. Many stores stop at 15 to 20 percent on retail and move larger buyers to wholesale quotes.
- Should testing cost be part of the price?
- Yes. Spread each batch's testing cost across its vials, or your margin on every sale is lower than you think.
