Product photos for a research store: a shot list that looks professional and passes review

Good product photos do more for trust than any tagline. Buyers want to see the actual vial, the label and the lot number, not a stock image. Reviewers want to see a lab supply store, not a lifestyle brand. A simple setup and a short shot list gets you both.

Updated September 28, 2026

The shot list

  1. Front of the vial, label centered and sharp, on a plain background.
  2. The label close up, with the lot number readable.
  3. The vial next to its box or pouch, if you use one.
  4. The packed order: vials, cold pack and insert, as the buyer receives it.
  5. The lab report printed or on screen next to the matching vial, for your lab report page.

A small-budget setup

  • A white or light gray sheet of card curving up behind the vial, so there is no visible corner.
  • Two soft light sources at 45 degrees, or a window with indirect daylight and a white card to fill shadows.
  • A phone on a small tripod, at the vial's height, using the main camera, not zoomed.
  • The same position and light for every product, so the catalog looks consistent.

Glass reflects everything. Turn off overhead lights, and move the lights until the reflections are soft stripes rather than bright spots.

Shots to avoid

  • People, hands holding equipment, or anything that suggests the product is used on people.
  • Gym, kitchen or bathroom settings.
  • Comparison photos of people, of any kind.
  • Stock photos of vials that are not yours.

How Purity handles photos

You can upload your own photo for each product, checked for size and shape so every page looks clean. If you do not have photos yet, every product sits on a photographic vial with your brand color, the amount, the research use only line and the lot number, so the store looks finished from day one.

Common questions

Do I need a professional photographer?
Not to start. A phone, a plain background and soft light produce clean, consistent product photos.
Should photos show the lot number?
Yes, on the close-up. It connects the photo to the lab report for that batch.
