MALDI-TOF mixes the sample with a matrix, fires a laser to turn it into charged particles, and times how long they take to fly down a tube. The flight time gives the mass.
It is quick and widely used for identity checks. Like other mass methods, it confirms what the compound is, not how pure it is.
