Mass spectrometry

Also called MS

A lab method that measures the mass of molecules, used to confirm a peptide's identity.

Mass spectrometry turns molecules into charged particles and measures their mass. If the measured mass matches the expected mass of the peptide, the lab reports the identity as confirmed.

On a COA, mass spectrometry answers "is this the right compound?" while HPLC answers "how pure is it?". A report with both is much stronger than a report with one.

Purity does the work these terms describe: batches held until their lab report is in, payments matched to orders, and wording checked before it sends.
